Fellows academic half day rounds: draft #

Department of Medicine
Division of Respirology
FELLOWS ACADEMIC HALF DAY ROUNDS
Updated: January 29, 2010

GOALS:
1. Review lung pathology, correlate pathological changes with changes seen on CT scans, CXR’s.
2. Apply evidence based medicine to review areas in pulmonary medicine where there is therapeutic and
diagnostic controversy. Review seminal papers in the area of pulmonary medicine. 3. Review topics in pulmonary medicine where the fellows have limited clinical exposure
FORMAT:
It would be expected that the residents would review the literature and present their interpretation of the
literature in the areas of clinical controversy. Thus a certain portion of the curriculum will be driven by the
residents.
The pathology sessions and xray correlations would be tightly structured in view of the limited time that the
radiologist and pathologists have available.
EXPECTATIONS:

The resident will be expected to
1. Attend all sessions. This course is mandatory for the fellows.
2. Participate actively in all the sessions.
3. Teach their fellow colleagues.
4. Certain sessions (identified with **) are resident driven. The resident will be expected to review the
literature in depth (texts; summary documents alone are unacceptable), reflect on the current management of these diseases; decide on the optimal management based on their literature search. At the time of the session, the preceptor will bring cases for review and management, given knowledge acquired from the literature searches. These are interactive and not didactic sessions.
