Date:______________ Time: ______________
Your doctor would like you to have a Renal Captopril Scan. This is a test to look at the blood flow to kidneys as a possible cause of high blood pressure.
Please report to the Department of Nuclear Medicine
Austin Campus: Level 1 of the Harold Stokes Building, which is located on Burgundy Street, Austin Health, Heidelberg, Vic.
Repatriation Campus: Level 2 of the Centaur Wing, which is located on Banksia street, Austin Health, Heidelberg, Vic.

If you cannot attend on the day, please call the Department to make another appointment time.
Procedure:
A post-Captopril study alone takes about 2 hours. You are given a Captopril tablet and then you will have your blood pressure
measured both lying and standing for the first part of the test, usually 1hour. After this, the scan will begin and you will be given an injection of a radioactive tracer and pictures of the kidneys are taken for about 30 minutes.
If you are having a pre and post Captopril study, you will be in
the Department for 1 hour in the morning, for the pre-Captopril scan. You will then be asked to return to the Department 3-4 hours later for the post-Captopril scan. You should leave the
Preparation:
You are asked to drink 2-3 glasses of water in the hour before
you attend either scan. If you are on any of the medications listed below, you will be asked to stop them before your appointment. Please discuss these instructions with your doctor before stopping any of your tablets. Please turn the page for the medication list.
